Two ratings appear above because they describe two different things. The drawing rating (DC 0–50V / 1A) is the rating of the standard VL-S-232A fryer variant, which switches the millivolt safety circuit. The series nameplate rating (AC 400V 30A) covers the line-voltage versions of the same VL-S series, as tested for the CE report. Tell us which circuit the limiter protects and we confirm the correct variant in writing.

All three series are covered by UL file E491946. The VL-S series is also CE certified.

Replacement cross-reference

The VL-S-232A is built as the replacement equivalent of the Robertshaw 5225-series manual-reset hi-limit below; its automatic-reset counterpart is the VL-Z. Capillary length is made to the inch specification of the original part.

Is the VL-S-232A a direct replacement for the Robertshaw LCHM050300000?

It matches on the points that matter for a hi-limit: manual reset, a fixed 450°F (232°C) trip, SPDT contact and a 3/8″-18 NPT gland, with the capillary made to the original 30″ specification. Check the VL-S-232A drawing (downloads above) against your part before ordering.

What is the difference between the VL-S and the VL-Z?

Reset behaviour. The VL-S is manual-reset: once it trips it stays open until a technician resets it. The VL-Z is automatic-reset: it re-closes as the equipment cools. Both have a standard 232°C (450°F) trip and are covered by UL file E491946; the VL-S series is also CE certified. Never swap one reset type for the other to make a cross-reference fit.

Which rating applies — DC 0–50V / 1A or AC 400V / 30A?

Both are real, for different variants. The standard VL-S-232A fryer variant is rated DC 0–50V / 1A for millivolt and low-voltage safety circuits; the VL-S series nameplate also covers AC 400V 30A versions for line-voltage equipment (CE test report ratings).
