Therm-O-Disc of Mansfield, Ohio, has made temperature controls since 1947 — part of Emerson from the 1960s, and sold to One Rock Capital in 2022. Most of its catalogue is bimetal disc thermostats, thermal cutoffs and NTC thermistors, which are not capillary thermostats and are not covered here. Its only capillary line is the 10H / 10HMR linear limit, a vacuum-charged copper-capillary control for electric baseboard heaters and HVAC equipment. This page matches its two variants to verified V.Crown safety limiters, and states plainly where the match is a functional alternative rather than a drop-in: the 10H senses along the whole length of its capillary, while the V.Crown VL-S and VL-Z sense at the bulb — so the match works where point sensing at the bulb is acceptable.

How to read the original part number
The 10H number reads left to right: series (10H), then the reset type. 10H11 is the auto-reset version; 10H14 is the manual-reset version (also sold as 10HMR). Both share one calibration range, 150–350°F, factory-set to order — the part number does not carry the set point, so quote the open temperature from the rating plate or the order, not from the number alone. “10H” without a suffix is the family, not a complete part number.
10H11 — auto-reset linear limit
Snap-action linear limit for electric baseboard heaters and HVAC equipment. The capillary is vacuum-charged copper and senses along its whole length, so the control responds to the hottest point anywhere on the capillary — not only at the end. It opens at the factory-set calibration (150–350°F / 65.6–177°C, ±15°F / ±8.5°C) and recloses about 40°F (22°C) below the open temperature. Rated UL 277V, 25A resistive, 100,000 cycles, UL file MH-5304, CSA LR19988; capillary 24–144″; 6.5″ #14 AWG leads; maximum open temperature 350°F (177°C); switch case maximum 221°F (100°C). The V.Crown VL-Z is our auto-reset safety limiter under the same UL file as the VL-S (E491946): it senses at the bulb, so confirm that point sensing is acceptable in your heater before ordering.

| Original part | Original specification | V.Crown equivalent |
|---|---|---|
| Therm-O-Disc 10H11 | Auto-reset linear limit · factory-set open 150–350°F (65.6–177°C), ±15°F · recloses ~40°F below open · 25A/277V resistive · 100,000 cycles · capillary 24–144″ · UL MH-5304, CSA LR19988 | VL-Z |
VL-Z is the auto-reset safety limiter in our safety temperature limiter range — its trip point is factory-calibrated to specification, as with the VL-S. Note that the VL-Z senses at the bulb, while the 10H senses along the whole capillary.
10H14 (10HMR) — manual-reset linear limit
Manual-reset linear limit for the same baseboard-heater and HVAC applications. It opens at the factory-set calibration (150–350°F / 65.6–177°C, ±15°F / ±8.5°C) and stays open until the M1 trip-free manual-reset button is pressed — holding the button cannot force the circuit closed. Rated UL 277V, 25A resistive, 6,000 cycles, UL file MH-5304, CSA LR19988; capillary 24–144″; 6.5″ #14 AWG leads; maximum open temperature 350°F (177°C); switch case maximum 221°F (100°C). Note the cold-end behaviour: below -31°F (-35°C) the control may reset automatically. The V.Crown VL-S is our manual-reset safety limiter, UL-listed (file E491946) and CE-certified, with the trip point factory-calibrated to the original value; it senses at the bulb, so confirm that point sensing is acceptable in your heater before ordering.

VL-S is a manual-reset safety limiter with the trip point set to the original value — see the VL-S safety limit thermostat for the full specification, including the standard 232 °C trip variant VL-S-232A.
Outside the scope of these tables
Everything else in the Therm-O-Disc catalogue is out of scope here: the bimetal disc thermostats (36T, 60T, 49T, 37T, 39T, 44T, 48T, 58T, 59T, 66T, 64T, 69T, 74T, 10RS, 12S, 14S, 15S, 14T, 30M) are snap-action disc devices, not capillary thermostats; MICROTEMP thermal cutoffs (TCOs) are one-shot fuses, not resettable limiters; and NTC thermistors are sensors, not switching controls. There is no adjustable capillary control, no millivolt gas control, no three-pole capillary control and no capillary thermometer in the Therm-O-Disc line, so the ARB-33, AG16-K, AG32 and AGT families have no Therm-O-Disc counterpart in these tables. The 10H is also an HVAC and baseboard-heater control, not a commercial-kitchen control — the match is for the same safety-limit function, not the same application.

Five checks before you order
- Function and reset type — 10H11 recloses automatically about 40°F below its open temperature; 10H14 stays open until the manual-reset button is pressed. The suffix tells you which one you have — 11 is auto-reset, 14 is manual-reset. Replacing a manual-reset limiter with an auto-reset one removes the lockout that keeps a failed heater off.
- Open temperature — the 10H calibration is factory-set anywhere in 150–350°F (65.6–177°C) to ±15°F — the part number alone does not state it. Read the open temperature from the rating plate and quote it with the order, so the VL-S / VL-Z trip point is calibrated to the same value.
- Sensing principle — the 10H senses along the whole capillary length; the VL-S and VL-Z sense at the bulb. The match is a functional alternative only where point sensing at the bulb is acceptable — check where the hottest point is in your heater before ordering.
- Poles and current — both 10H variants are single-pole, rated 25A resistive at 277V. A single-pole replacement cannot break a two-pole safety circuit, and a lower-current replacement cannot carry a 25A load.
- Capillary length and case temperature — the 10H capillary runs 24–144″ and its switch case must stay below 221°F (100°C). Confirm the capillary length and the case mounting temperature from the rating plate: a capillary that is too short cannot reach the sensing point, and a case that runs hot will shorten the control’s life.
Send us the part number you are replacing — or a photo of its rating plate — and we will run all five checks in writing before quoting, so the equivalent arrives as a fit, not a new project.
Certification: ask for the numbers, then verify them
VL-S is a UL-listed component (file E491946) and CE-certified, and the VL-Z sits under the same UL file; the 10H carries UL file MH-5304 and CSA LR19988. When an alternative supplier offers a safety device, ask for the file number — not a logo — and verify it before the part goes into certified equipment.
Samples and trial orders
Free samples of VL-S and VL-Z are available for bench testing — you cover only the courier, and the freight is credited against your first order. Trial orders start at 200 pcs, with models mixed in one shipment, and mechanical customisation (trip point, capillary length, bulb, dial printing) is developed free of charge. Send us the Therm-O-Disc number you are buying now and we will match it.
